Movie Digest # 043

PATHOLOGY
Glorietta 4, Cinema 1, April 29, 6:00pm

This small film has lots of surprises for a Hollywood film. Other than Milo Ventimiglia (of "Heroes" fame) and Alyssa Milano, "Pathology" doesn't have much star power. And that's a good thing. The film delves into the twisted game of pathologists who are challenged to come up with a perfect crime. Mechanics include killing a person, a society trash, through a clever and, err, medical way (something that CSI cannot solve). The ending is a bit predictable but the filmmaking used is appealingly old-school (complete with tight shots and thematic camera works). I enjoyed this one.

Friends who might appreciate it: Peter Petrelli fans.

PLONING
SM Megamall, Cinema 5, May 1, 1:00pm

Yes, the film is a must-see regardless if you dig Juday or not. Probably the first good Filipino film for 2008. More stories about this on my other blog entry ("Manood ng "Ploning" Dahil/Hindi Dahil").

Friends who might appreciate it: not limited to Fitrum users.

DONSOL
UP Film Institute, Cine Adarna, May 1, 5:00pm

I'm not sure if I dislike this one or not. Donsol, the place, doesn't have anything to do with the plot or the characters. Take this film as your Butanding-Watching 101, nothing more, nothing less. Statement: Adolf Alix has made a poor debut film.

Friends who might appreciate it: whale sharks.
